On Friday, May 23rd, the State of CA recommended the SF Rec and Park Department’s application for a Prop 84 Urban Greening Grant for the Noe Valley Town Square to the State’s Strategic Growth Council. The recommendation was for a $559,000 grant.
This is fantastic news. We are optimistic that Rec and Park will receive this grant, although the Strategic Growth Council will make the final decision at its June 3rd Board Meeting.
A huge “thank you” goes out to Senator Mark Leno and his staff for making us aware of this grant as well as writing a letter of support. Once again, Rec and Park’s Toni Moran was the lead writer of the grant request with support from Residents For Noe Valley Town Square’s Leslie Crawford and Kate Sherwood.
The cost of the total project is approximately $6.4 million ($4.2 million in acquisition costs and $2.2 million in development costs). To date, we have raised almost 93% of the total budget!
Supervisor Wiener’s Open Space Acquisition Fund Legislation funded the purchase of the Town Square for $4.2 million.
The Land and Water Conservation Grant recommended $743,534 for development.
The Prop 84 Urban Greening Grant recommended $559,000 for development.
Neighborhood donations are approximately $500,000.
